Art educator and professional photographer, Gail Weyant, has worked extensively in photography and ceramics in her creative endeavors. "I often start with film and a darkroom print where I have applied advanced darkroom techniques such as sabattier effect, negative sandwiches and high contrast printing filters. Then, I might hand color or tone an image before I scan it into the computer. I then combine images, mask and ghost images, use color and filter enhancements and adjust contrast and tonality to create surreal compositions. Using this surrealistic style allows me to incorporate visual symbolism and metaphors to stretch the depth of my photographic content."
"Within ceramics, I am intrigued with combining sculptural and found objects into my forms. My landscape and nature photography have inspired the inclusion of wild animal images and elements of their habitats into the ceramic designs. I have also explored the use of cut out designs as well as multiple glazing applications at different temperatures to produce vibrant color combinations."
