Tanya Tyree Raku Vessels

Each of Tanya Tyree’s raku vessels are either wheel thrown or handbuilt and incised with figurative designs enhanced with texture and pattern. Copper, clear and gold luster glazes are hand-painted on each form leaving the incised lines and textures unglazed. The pieces are then raku fired in a small gas kiln, removed while red hot, burned and reduced in combustible materials and quickly plunged in cold water. Blackened lines and textures contrast with the illuminating metallic copper and gold glazes giving each piece a unique jewel-like quality. This violent raku process mysteriously alters the glazes making each work unique in form, design and surface.
