“Although I have explored since childhood the individual disciplines of photography, printmaking, drawing, painting, handmade paper and darkroom techniques, it was in 1998 that I discovered a beautiful and unusual way to combine these versatile media.” She starts with an original photographic image that is then transferred onto 100% cotton paper with chemicals and a Speedball baren. She uses watercolor pencils, crayons and watercolor washes to add a dream-like dimension to the image. Robertson then photographs the manipulated image with a medium-format camera. Back in the darkroom, she combines different filter combinations with dodge & burn techniques to add richness, texture and depth of color to each piece. She uses only archival materials throughout this complex process.
