Kathie Ratcliffe lives and works in Waterford, Virginia, a National Historic Landmark. A quilter of large and small pieces for over 30 years, Kathie has adapted her skills to miniature scale. Kathie’s passion for traditional 19th c. American pieced quilts is reflected in her authentic miniature quilts. Each signed intricate original is inspired by an actual historic quilt or by a documented 19th century pattern.
In capturing the essence of specific historic quilts, consideration is given to the style and scale of printed cotton fabrics and to authentic color combinations. The resulting quilts are accurate in design, regional styles, and fabric trends of the most dynamic century in quilt history. Traditional construction techniques are used throughout. Finished quilts are framed in hand-grained frames.
Kathie’s miniature quilts are rated museum quality and are in private collections. Ratcliffe has been selected annually since 2005 for Early American Life's Directory of Traditional American Crafts.
